State Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park 2018 Renovations

The newly renamed State Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park has been undergoing a $6 million renovation since late October 2017. The board and staff of the Chastain Park Conservancy were given a tour of the improvements with Peter Conlon of Live Nation. Peter showed us around and answered all of our questions. While the historic guts of the amphitheatre remain the same, the improvements are a welcome site. Some of the highlights are a raised stage & ceiling height allowing for video boards and modern day sound and lighting rigs. The concession area has always been drab, but today it is a focal point with all new kitchen and serving facilities, areas to gather, legit bathrooms (with air conditioning). The amphitheatre is now fully ADA compliant including new elevators that take you right to the action. There are also true box seats closest to the stage with cushy seats and cup holders! Powers Ferry Bridge Replacement Meeting

Tomorrow night, May 15th from 6-8pm District 8 Council member JP Matzigkeit will be holding a public information session at the Chastain Horse Park to discuss the replacement of the Powers Ferry Bridge in Chastain Park. Information that will be available at the meeting include:

The project timeline, including when the bridge will be removed and replaced
The vehicular traffic detour
The pedestrian detour for those using the PATH
The rendering of the new bridge

** This is in reference to the bridge that crosses over Nancy Creek, south of Hillside Drive, North of Pineland Rd.

Gardening Classes at Farm Chastain

On Saturday Peyton and I went to check out the Greenhouse Gardening class at Farm Chastain at the Chastain Park Conservancy. We are starting our garden this year from seed so this was the perfect class.

 

 

There were about 30 people in attendance. We learned from Lou Linzie about the makeup and function of the greenhouse onsite at the Conservancy and were given all of the tools to start our garden off right.

This year Peyton and I ordered all of our seeds from the Southern Exposure Seed Exchange so we brought our seed kits home to get started. Below is what mine ended up looking like, full of tomatoes and sweet peppers, 72 plants to be exact.

Autumn Beer Festival “Goat Fest” Saturday 11/11 in Chastain Park

 

This Saturday November 11th,  Atlanta’s newest brewery Steady Hand Beer Co. will show
off their favorite beers at Goat Fest, an Autumn beer festival “under champion trees on the historic grounds of Chastain Park”, also known as “the Barn” at the Chastain Park Conservancy. The beer festival will include exclusive brews, live music, food, and good times in honor of their fine looking resident goat. *All proceeds will go to support the free urban farming classes offered at Farm Chastain throughout the year. 

Some of the beers that will be on-hand are:

Georgia Farmhouse: 6.25% Made with Organic grits, wheat and oats. lightly tart with Notes of Citrus and subtle spice. Sweet Sunny South in a glass

Fall Farmhouse: 6.5% Amber Farmhouse with roasted Sweet Potato. Flavors of caramelized Sweet Potato, toasted rye and baking spice, balanced by a smooth noble hop character.

Pie Revivale: Wine Barrel fermented with actual Apple Pie added to the mash. Pleasantly sour with notes of cider and orchard fruit

Flower Business: 9% Double IPA, Notes of fresh squeezed citrus, tropical fruit and subtle pine.

Tickets are $40.00 and can be purchased at ChastainParkConservancy.org. First 65 ticket buyers will receive a free commemorative Goat Fest 2017 glass. This is a 21 and up event.

The Chastain Park Conservancy is located at 4001 Powers Ferry Road NW Atlanta, GA 30342.  For reference, the driveway to the Conservancy is just south of where Tuxedo Road intersects Powers Ferry, taking you into the center of the golf course.

I hope to see you there on Saturday supporting a local company and the Chastain Park Conservancy which does so much for Chastain Park. The Georgia – Auburn game will be on in the background for those that don’t want to miss the game.

Tree Down in Chastain Park Blocking Hillside

This morning I think I found the culprit causing the west side of Chastain Park to not have power the day after Tropical Storm Irma blew by Atlanta. Here is a picture of the tree down at the corner of Hillside Drive & Broadland Road, blocking Hillside completely and pulling the power lines to the ground. There were no signs of Georgia Power in the neighborhood meaning it could be some time before power is restored. Y’all be careful out there.
