The New Chastain Park Playground
What an exciting weekend it was in Chastain Park. We ushered in Spring with the opening of NYO’s 2016 season on Saturday morning with the parade, opening ceremony, and the celebration of Jane Wilkins and Jane Wilkins Field. Jane has been involved with NYO for the last 40 years, 35 of them spent as the program’s executive director. Saturday afternoon saw the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the newly renovated Chastain Park Playground.
Ben had a baseball game at the same time as the playground opening, so we took the kids over on Sunday to try it out. Below are some pictures of the new playground. You just have to go check it out. Our boys are 9 and 11 and found plenty to do on the same playground they played on as toddlers, only now it’s bigger and much better.
Some of the new playground features are a spaceship looking treehouse, long slides, swings that fit multiple kids, wind pipes and hand drums, and probably the most welcome sight is the addition of a restroom facility. Under it’s covered pavilion is a piano for all to play, placed in Chastain Park by Play Me Again Piano. “Janssen” as it was named is the first piano placement by Play Me Again Piano. You can support their efforts to spread the joy of music by visiting their website and donating.
Congratulations to everyone involved, especially all of the folks at the Chastain Park Conservancy, Harrison Design, Astra Property Group, the City of Atlanta, and everyone that donated time and money to make this happen.
Here is a picture of me and Bill Caldwell from Harrison Design testing out the new yellow slides on Wednesday.
