Putting a Cover on the Chastain Park Swimming Pool

August 27, 2015

Chastain Park Swimming PoolYou may have heard the Chastain Park Athletic club is planning to install a “semi-permanent” cover over the lap portion of the Chastain Park swimming pool. This would allow year-round swimming to it’s members, including the various swim teams that operate at the Chastain Pool. Below are some details from a July email from Jim King on the “plan” and “funding”.

Plan: Our pragmatic transformation plan has multiple projects within it. The main project is a new semi-permanent structure / cover over the lap lanes and adjoining grandstands to enable year-round swimming. Other parts of the collective initiative are making our secondary entrance the main entrance with associated site beautification improvements, mechanical system upgrades and necessary pool repairs/modifications. The plan is to have the cover up by November to facilitate our new year-round swim teams, which are slated to start this August. As you recall, we spent our savings last year on two heaters and we will be purchasing pool blankets in late summer to enable early fall practices.
Funding: On the funding front, we can report $700,000+ pledged so far towards a projected $1,000,000 total budget for current projects. In the short term, we need to raise the difference to complete all the pending improvements. Moreover, we will build on the success of our 14 year public-private partnership with the City of Atlanta, as well as continue to improve every part of the pool facility and grounds over the next few years.
