Chastain Park PATH Receives $1,000,000 from Atlanta City Council

October 8, 2013

The Atlanta City Council has approved the funding of $1,000,000 towards the expansion of the Chastain Park PATH that runs along Chastain Park Trail MapPowers Ferry Road.  The Chastain Park Conservancy announced this at the On a Green Night Fall Fundraiser held last week at the Chastain Park Amphitheater.  According to the article in the Buckhead Reporter, another $1.2m is needed to completely fund the project, but this gift will go a long way in cementing other donors.  The money comes from a trust fund that is partially funded each year from tickets sales at the Chastain Park Amphitheater.

As someone who runs/walks the PATH around Chastain Park several days a week this will be a welcome change.  The sidewalk on the Powers Ferry side is tight as it is, but during busy times you are forced to move over to the street when passing others, especially if one of you has a dog.  The new sidewalk will be 10 feet wide at most points giving everyone a lot more space, along with a much needed separation from the street in the form of landscaping and fence work.
