2012 NYO Baseball Begins in Chastain Park

February 15, 2012

The 2012 NYO (Northside Youth Organization) season was slated to kick off this past weekend when the weather decided it wanted to be Winter again.  After several weeks of above average temperatures in Atlanta, a cold spell hit and the first weekend of NYO baseball practice was cut short by temperatures in the 20’s.  As you can imagine those kinds of temps are no fun for kids, and no good for the beautiful fields that NYO provides each season.

The official season will begin with opening day on March 17 at NYO.  This is always a fun day with a parade of the teams and the beginning on Parking Insanity.  In 2012 there are over 1500 boys signed up for baseball and around 600 girls playing softball.  That is a whole lot of kids, a whole lot of cars, and not a lot of space.

The question is, will we ever see a change or upgrade to the parking situation?

Who will build it?  The City of Atlanta?  NYO?  The Chastain Park Conservancy?

What do you think?  Would love to hear your opinion in the comments.
