Chastain Park Tennis Center Groundbreaking Ceremony

January 28, 2010

Tennis Center Plan

This morning I went to the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Chastain Park Tennis Center.  In attendance were board members of the Chastain Park Conservancy, the City Parks Department, City Council Members, Southface and many others.  The Astra Group is going to be handling the construction of the new facility and hopes to be completed in the next four to six months.  That will put us somewhere in July for a grand opening of the new center.  That corner of West Wieuca and Powers Ferry Rd is the gateway into Chastain Park and will certainly make a grand statement for visitors to the park.  There will also be public restrooms on the outside of the building which I’m sure will be a hit for the hundreds of people that walk/run/bike around the park each day.  Below are pictures from the event today.

I thought everyone would like to know that we have an approved tree replacement plan that relates to the tree removal at the Tennis Center. There will be 88 new trees planted in the park with an appropriate number going on the tennis center site. The tree planting will be a wonderful addition the park. We all hate to loose trees but what a great opportunity to add Oaks, Elems, Dogwoods, Eastern Red Cedars, and Cyrptomeria. The tree planting plan and other communications will be posted on site very soon. P.S. the demo is happening in a day or two. Ed

Thanks Ed for the info on the tree replacement plan, that sounds great to me. If you have a pdf of the plan I would be happy to make a link of it and upload it to the website. Or if you have a link to it on your site, I can link to that. Thanks for everything you are and have been doing for Chastain Park! Carson
