Making Way For The New Chastain Park Tennis Center

January 27, 2010

Driving home from work yesterday I stumbled upon tree crews removing trees at the corner of Powers Ferry and West Wieuca.  I called the Chastain Park Conservancy to see what was going on and discovered they are clearing the way for construction of the new Chastain Park Tennis Center!  You can read more about the project on the conservancy’s blog at http://chastainparkconservancy.org/blog/?p=41.  There is going to be a groundbreaking ceremony this Thursday January 28th at 11am where Atlanta’s new Mayor Mr. Kasim Reed will make remarks along with members of the City Council and Chastain Park Conservancy board members.  The City is working with the Southface Energy Institute to certify the tennis center as an EarthCraft House structure. The new tennis center is part of the “Master Plan” that was developed and approved in 2008.  You can see the entire master plan which includes renderings of the new tennis center concept at http://chastainparkconservancy.org/Chastain_Master_Plan.pdf.

Here are some pictures of the current tennis center and I will keep you updated as construction progresses.

I had no idea it was under construction, let alone that it will be Green! That’s awesome.
