Chastain Park Trail System
A couple of nights ago I was walking Cody the Goldendoodle around Chastain Park and stopped to read a new sign that I had noticed on the PATH when driving by. Turns out they have created three trails around the park, one for 1.6 miles and two others at 3.1 miles each. Mile marker zero for all three is at the Red lot next to the covered section of the horse park. The Blue Trail goes around the entire park, the Red Trail goes around the golf course and along West Wieuca & Pool Rd, and the Gold Trail goes along West Wieuca, Pool Road and Park Drive. I think this was a great idea and certainly gives walkers a plan when they come to the park. It also encourages those walking the PATH to begin parking in the Red Lot on Powers Ferry Rd instead of along West Wieuca. I can’t even quantify the difference it would make if people visiting Chastain Park to use the PATH parked in the Red Lot. West Wieuca gets really congested this time of the year with NYO in full swing and more people visiting the playground & golf course. Relocating those cars to the Red Lot will make a big difference for the flow of traffic through the park. We’ll see if it sticks. Until then, happy walking.
